I started my proofreading services by chance. A master student contacted me during MCO asking whether I can proofread her thesis. The timeline given was two weeks. I was quite free at that time so why not. I could not really do it during day time since I have a very active toddler. The only time I could really focus was when the baby had his afternoon nap or very early in the morning. I am a morning person. I am most productive mentally during early mornings. I love the quiet and peace when everyone in the house is asleep.
The thesis had 200 pages. To help the student doing her corrections, I sent my feedback after completing every chapter. There were six chapters altogether. I was happy that I could meet the deadline given despite having three kids at home. Big thanks to my hubby. He is very helpful with the house chores.
Luckily, the thesis was related to my research interest. It made the proofreading interesting. I had the opportunity to apply the knowledge I gained when researching on the same topic during my doctoral studies. I even learned new things while proofreading. During my time, I familiarized myself using NVivo for the qualitative data analysis. This student on the other hand, used Atlas Ti. It was interesting seeing the different ways in presenting research findings using the two softwares.
I was happy when the student was very satisfied with my work. She has passed her oral presentation and has been awarded the master degree. I feel that in a way I am contributing to someone who strives to better herself and her life. All praises to Allah.
